Is it a bee, hummingbird,or a moth?

FOOLED YOU! It's a Hummingbird Moth. It has characteristics of all three. It flies like a hummingbird looks like a bee, but it's moth. It hovers from flower to flower sipping nectar. Enjoy my photos. Devin's Nature Blog.

  1. Great photos. I never saw a hummingbird moth before. They look like they belong in a science fiction movie.

  5. Hey Devin,
    LOVE your photographs !
I am now so open to looking closer to see if I can find such beauty myself.
As a photographer,I was wondering if you could post a few words about how you used the camera.
Like the image of the pickerel frog that looks to have some coloring, but the background looks as if it were a black and white photograph.
    ?Or photo shopped?
    I absolutely love your blog.
    THANK YOU!

  8. I think you may be right, but aren't a moth's antennae supposed to be feathered?

  9. I saw these little things once, and my friends and I were fooled as well! Possibly some of the best camouflage ever created by mother nature!

  10. I saw something similar on the Hummingbird Bushes on our deck. I followed it, like a child, from plant to plant.I did get a VERY CLOSE look at it.The creature I saw IS a hummingBIRD.It does resemble a Bumble Bee. It's tail FEATHERS mimic bee "fuzz/fur".The "antennae" are destinctly FEATHERS,so I don't think it is a moth or a bee, but a BIRD. It has 2 BIRD legs. I truly need to photograph it. So fascinating.

  12. I took my dog out, and was standing next to my honey suckle plant, at first I didn't know what I was looking at, never seen anything like it well with a lot of patients I trapped it between my hands, and took a good look at it. I looked it up in the pc, and found out it was a moth humming bird. I did not even knew they existed. I was fascinated by this experience.
